DATELINE Tuesday, January 5, 2010
CROCKETT - Filing for a position in the November 2010 General Election ended on Monday, Jan. 4.
Both Republicans and Democrats filed with their respective parties vying for various offices. Independents filed with the county judge.
The month-long filing period began on Thursday, Dec. 3.
Republicans and Democrats will face their party opposition for each office in the Tuesday, March 2, 2010 Primary Election.
The Primary Election, and any ancillary run-off elections will determine which single Republican candidate will face which single Democratic candidate and any Independent candidates for each of the positions that will be ultimately decided in the Tuesday, Nov. 2 General Election.
After the primary elections and runoffs are over to become an official candidate, an Independent must obtain signatures on a petition and file for a place on the ballot. This must be filed by May 13.
The number of signatures required is five percent of the total number of votes cast in the county in the 2006 general election for governor.

CROCKETT - Early voting for the upcoming Tuesday, March 2 Primary Election will be held Tuesday, Feb. 16 – Friday, Feb. 26 on basement floor of Houston County Courthouse from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
For additional information call the county clerk at 544-3255 ext. 240.
The deadline to register to vote in the 2010 Primary Election is Monday, Feb. 1.
Local voters may register at the Tax office located in the Houston County Courthouse Annex.
Residents also may register online at www.votexas.org.

HOUSTON COUNTY - Five local school districts, five cities and the hospital district are slated to hold elections on Saturday, May 8 to fill various positions within their respective entities.
Early voting will be held Monday, April 26 - Tuesday, May 4 at the various entities.
The deadline for candidates to file for a position on the ballot is Monday, March 8.
Candidates interested in filing for a position should contact the specific entity for additional information.

CROCKETT – Citizens who voted in the Tuesday, March 2 Republican Primary Election in Precinct 2 can get ready to head back to the voting booth on Tuesday, April 13 for the run-off election between Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace candidates Virginia Lewis and Ronnie Jordan.
There were four Republican candidates running for the job and neither of the two frontrunners garnered 51 percent of the vote, forcing a run-off election. Jordan received 37.63 percent of the vote and Mrs. Lewis received 32.03 percent.
Early voting will be held at the courthouse April 5-9.
There were a total of 1,164 citizens who participated in early voting, of those 264 voted Democratic and 900 Republican.
There are a total of 13,472 registered voters in the county and of those 3,463 cast votes in the election either in early voting or on election day. A total of 668 Democrats and 2,795 Republicans voted.

HOUSTON COUNTY – There seems to be a bit of confusion as to who will be allowed to vote in the upcoming run-off election between candidates Virgina Lewis and Ronnie Jordan for the Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 position.
According to Houston County Clerk Bridget Lamb, all registered voters in Precinct 2, except those who voted in the Democratic Primary, will be allowed to cast a ballot in the run-off election for the Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 position.
According to Houston County Republican Chairman Tony Currie, in the state run-off election for Supreme Court Place 3, all Houston County registered voters, except those who voted in the Democratic Primary, are eligible to vote.
The drawing for ballot positioning will be held on Thursday, March 11 in the Houston County Commissioners Court Room immediately following the canvassing of the votes by tge Republican Executive Committee at 9 a.m.
In the Supreme Court Place 3 race as of press time Friday morning officials were determining which of the leading four candidates would face each other in the run-off election.
The front runners are Rick Green with 18.93 percent of the votes, Debra Lehrmann with 18.20 percent, Jim Moseley with 18.13 percent and Rebecca Simmons with 18.03 percent.
Early voting will be held at the courthouse April 5-9.
Eligible voters not taking advantage of early voting will be able to cast their ballot on Election Day, Tuesday, April 13 at their customary voting location for their precinct.
The information originally provided to the Courier regarding who could vote in the run-off election was incorrect.
